Lost and hungry in Los Angeles? Stuck with a stomach rumble in one of the most confusing, sprawling urban jungles in the traveller’s world? Most tourists grab a guidebook and make a grateful beeline for familiar chains, or chase tables at celeb-heavy power joints such as The Palm, and “Sinatra sat here” old-school hang-outs epitomised by Musso & Frank Grill. However, there is another Los Angeles dining scene, one which doesn’t rely on predictability or star power for its attraction.
